Applications must be\u00a0submitted\u00a0to the El Paso County Treasurer\u2019s Office by the deadline to be considered for the 2025\u00a0tax year\u00a0that is due and payable in 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #002d5d;font-size: 16px\">The Property Tax Deferral Program,\u00a0established\u00a0in<strong>\u00a0Colorado Revised Statutes<\/strong>\u00a0and administered in partnership with the\u00a0<strong>Colorado State Treasurer\u2019s Office<\/strong>, allows qualifying property owners to defer the payment of a\u00a0portion\u00a0of their property taxes. The program is designed to provide financial relief to homeowners who may\u00a0experience difficulty\u00a0paying their taxes in a single annual installment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #002d5d;font-size: 16px\"><strong>Program Overview\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #002d5d;font-size: 16px\">Under Colorado law, eligible\u00a0seniors and active-duty service members\u00a0may defer\u00a0their real property\u00a0taxes regardless of income. Deferred taxes\u00a0are recorded against the participants property as a junior lien\u00a0and are repaid when the property is sold, ownership changes, or the homeowner no longer qualifies.\u00a0\u00a0This program\u00a0<strong>does not<\/strong>\u00a0exempt property owners from taxes but is used\u00a0as a way to\u00a0assist\u00a0to\u00a0assist\u00a0Coloradoans with paying their annual real property taxes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #002d5d;font-size: 16px\"><strong>Basic Eligibility Requirements Include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #002d5d;font-size: 16px\">The property must be the owner\u2019s <strong>primary residence<\/strong>.
