{"id":19993,"date":"2026-03-17T16:10:48","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T22:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.elpasoco.com\/?p=19993"},"modified":"2026-03-17T15:58:04","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T21:58:04","slug":"el-paso-county-public-works-earns-national-award-for-snow-and-ice-control-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.elpasoco.com\/el-paso-county-public-works-earns-national-award-for-snow-and-ice-control-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"El Paso County Public Works Earns National Award \ufefffor Snow and Ice Control Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<b><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">El Paso County, Colorado, March 17, 2026\u00a0<\/span><\/b>&#8211; The American Public Works Association (APWA) has selected El Paso County\u2019s Department of Public Works (DPW) as a 2026 recipient of the\u00a0<b>Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award<\/b>, recognizing the County\u2019s comprehensive and data-driven winter operations program.<\/p>\n<p>The national recognition reflects sustained performance across a 2,130-square-mile service area and 4,400 lane miles of roadway, where crews respond to an average of 24 plowable snow events each year and clear more than one million lane miles annually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>This award represents the consistent, professional work our snow fighters deliver year after year,<\/i>\u201d said Jack Ladley, Executive Director of El Paso County Public Works. \u201c<i>Our team combines strong training, proven technology, and disciplined operations to provide reliable service for residents while being responsible stewards of public resources.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Examples of the high standard the Department consistently delivers for the residents of El Paso County include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Advanced technology and transparency:<\/b>\u00a0Every plow truck and grader is equipped with Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and telematics systems that track route progress and material application in real time.
