This closure is necessary to allow crews to install drainage pipes across the road and reconstruct the Hartford on and off ramps. Full closures decrease the duration of traffic impacts and increase safety for the traveling public and crews. A detour will be in place:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><span data-ogsb=\"yellow\">Traffic intending to enter northbound South Academy Boulevard will continue north to Welton Drive, travel east to Maxwell Street and turn north to E. Las Vegas Street (CanAm Hwy.), and travel southeast to enter South Academy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p data-ogsb=\"white\"><b><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">Overnight alternating lane closures on northbound South Academy Boulevard between Fountain Creek and Bradley Road are planned<\/span><\/b><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\"> for Monday, Sept. 9 through Thursday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to allow crews to perform bridge deck repairs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-ogsb=\"white\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">There will be <b>northbound South Academy Boulevard right lane closures at Bradley Road and between Bradley Road and Milton Proby Parkway<\/b> on Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for light removals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">Northbound South Academy Boulevard between U.S. 85\/87 and Bradley Road will be temporarily closed<\/span><\/strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\"> starting Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. to Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. to allow crews to perform bridge deck repairs. A detour will be in place:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li data-ogsb=\"white\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">Northbound traffic will exit to U.S. 85\/87, travel south to Fontaine Boulevard, travel east to Grinnell Boulevard, travel north to Bradley Road, and travel west to re-enter northbound South Academy Boulevard.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">A northbound South Academy Boulevard lane shift between Milton Proby Parkway and Fountain Creek to the outside is ongoing<\/span><\/strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\"> to allow crews to perform drainage and median work. The new alignment will be in place until late September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;15028&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;right&#8221; onclick=&#8221;img_link_large&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">A diversion of Coventry Drive traffic intending to travel west on South Academy is ongoing: <\/span><\/strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">westbound traffic will enter northbound I-25, travel to South Circle Drive (Mile Point 138), turn around and continue south to exit 135 to continue westbound South Academy. This detour will be in place until mid-September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">A shift of east- and westbound South Academy Boulevard between I-25 and Fountain Creek towards the center is ongoing<\/span><\/strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\"> to allow crews to work on the outside lanes, install drainage pipes, and prepare to construct a noise barrier. The project includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">Replacement of two bridges crossing over South Academy Boulevard<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">Widening of both inside and outside shoulders and installing safety improvements<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">Concrete surface treatment overlay to provide an improved riding surface<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">Installation of median barrier<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">Rehab and widening work on four bridges<\/li>\n<li><span data-ogsc=\"black\">Installation of an I-25 southbound deceleration lane at the interchange with Colorado Highway 16<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">South Academy Boulevard Widening Project<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"yellow\">The improvements to South Academy Boulevard in this project are located on South Academy Boulevard at the southern mile and a half of this arterial road from the I-25 interchange, crossing US 85\/87, and continuing to the road\u2019s approach to Milton Proby Parkway (which connects to Powers Boulevard\/CO 21). Construction focuses on widening an approximately 1.5-mile section of South Academy Boulevard from two lanes to three in each direction to alleviate recurring congestion. The project includes improved drainage facilities, lighting, striping, and expanded shoulders, modified merge lanes, sound walls and bridgework. The project is expected to be complete by early 2026. This project is managed by El Paso County.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Safety Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">CDOT conducted a safety assessment for the corridor to evaluate the magnitude and nature of\u00a0safety problems and analyze the causes of crashes. These transportation improvements are mitigation measures to reduce crashes, improve infrastructure, and address physical deficiencies that contribute to crashes in the corridor.
