Benefit verification and card issuance will be suspended.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>What happens to Veterans&#8217; services?<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #002d5d\">All Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities and clinics will remain operational, and the VA will continue to process Veterans\u2019 benefits, such as health care and pensions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>How is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) impacted?<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #002d5d\">SNAP benefits can continue for the first 30 days of a government shutdown. After that, the USDA cannot issue payments. Additionally, merchants cannot renew EBT licenses, so stores with expired licenses cannot accept SNAP benefits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>How is Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Funding impacted?<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #002d5d\">During shutdowns, states are typically asked to front the money for formula grant programs, including TANF, which can lead to service disruptions that vary by state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>Will the IRS still function?<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #002d5d\">During government shutdowns, the IRS cannot perform routine duties such as verifying income or Social Security numbers. The 2013 shutdown created a backlog of 1.2 million verification requests, delayed mortgage and other loan approvals, and postponed billions of dollars in tax refunds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>Will mail still arrive?<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #002d5d\"> Yes. The U.S. Postal Service is mainly funded through postage product sales operations will not be affected by a shutdown.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>Will passport services be affected?<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #002d5d\">Federal passport services aren\u2019t expected to be impacted by a shutdown because they are funded by fees (vs. appropriations). In a prolonged shutdown, passports and visa issuance could be slowed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>Is air travel impacted?<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #002d5d\">Although air traffic control is considered an essential service, travelers felt the effects of the 2018 shutdown when unpaid TSA agents chose not to report to work, causing security checkpoint closures and delays at major airports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0074b7\"><strong>Will border enforcement continue?<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #002d5d\">As an essential department, US Border Patrol agents will remain on duty during a government shutdown; Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will also continue to operate, albeit without
